Poetry

"Simply to love you
shall suffice today
so let us leave the gift
of its return
until some later hand
has shaped my clay
over and over
fitter for your name
and if that secret hand
should never learn a new perfection
on the endless wheel
ever my love
must strengthen in the flame
and make me true
upon a rack of steel
I shall not weary
if you dare to say
ages of life as swiftly shall begun
as thumbling sands
within the living glass
oh promised you
how could I curse the way
or from the shadows
to the shadows pass
and not feel nearer sudden
shafts of down"
